PRP Facelift: A Non-Surgical Anti-Aging Treatment

Facelift

If you want to revitalize your face and make it look more lifted and youthful, surgery isn’t your only option. While surgery can be the right option for some people, there are less invasive ways to boost the appearance of your skin, and you can do it by using your body’s own healing capabilities.

PRP treatments are a way to achieve a more youthful look by only using what comes from your own body. At Mariposa Aesthetics and Laser Center, we use platelet-rich plasma from your blood to boost your skin’s volume and make it look smoother and more even.

What Is Platelet-Rich Plasma?

Your body is made up of several different components that all play different roles. The solid part of the blood is made of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The liquid part of the blood, called plasma, contains water proteins, salts, and more.

Platelet-rich plasma or PRP is made by separating these parts out and then isolating the plasma and the platelets. This mixture contains growth factors that can help your body to heal itself, create new tissue, and produce more collagen and elastin. It can be injected into the body to speed up healing, reduce inflammation, or in the case of a PRP facelift, restore youthful volume and help make the skin tighter with fewer lines and wrinkles.

What Are the Benefits of PRP Therapy for the Face?

Stimulates Unipotent Stem Cells

Unipotent stem cells are a special type of stem cell that each form one kind of specialized cells, such as muscle cells, bone cells, or skin cells. PRP can help to stimulate these stem cells to produce more of their specific type of cell. When injected into facial skin, PRP can help encourage the growth of new, healthy skin cells because of the growth factors that are present in the serum.

Helps Reverse Collagen Loss

In addition to stimulating the growth of new skin cells, PRP therapy for the face has also been shown to help stimulate the production of fibroblasts which produce collagen and elastin in the skin. Since collagen production decreases as you mature, PRP is a way to help encourage the skin in your face to continue producing collagen.

Lifts Sagging Skin and Reduce Wrinkles

As more collagen and elastin are produced, your skin can have a stronger structure and a firmer texture. While everyone responds differently to treatment, PRP can help to tighten sagging skin. Additional support for the epidermis can also smooth out lines and wrinkles.

Stimulates the Formation of New Blood Vessels

In addition to stimulating collagen production, PRP can also stimulate the growth of new blood vessels in the skin. New blood vessels can help make the skin a more youthful color.

What Is a PRP Facelift?

When all of these benefits are combined, injection of PRP into the facial area can create a lifting and anti-aging effect that can be achieved without surgery or invasive procedures. A PRP facelift is a treatment where PRP is injected into your face like a filler to both add volume and stimulate all of the benefits mentioned above.

The goal of a PRP facelift procedure is to improve the texture of your skin, restore some of the youthful lift and volume through collagen production, and make the outer layer of your skin appear more smooth and more youthful.

How Is a PRP Facial Treatment Performed?

Step 1: A Small Amount of Blood Is Drawn

When you come in for treatment, a small amount of your own blood will be drawn from your arm. The amount of blood taken will depend on what areas are being treated, how much PRP is going to be used, and other factors, but it may be similar to having your blood drawn for labs. This first step of your PRP facial rejuvenation will only take a couple of minutes.

Step 2: The PRP Is Separated From  Other Components

After we take all of the blood that we need, we put it into a special FDA-approved centrifuge that separates the components of the blood. While spinning, the red blood cells, plasma, and platelets will be separated into three distinct layers. Then the plasma and platelets are separated from the red blood cells and prepared for injection.

Step 3: The Serum Is Injected Into the Skin

Once the PRP has been prepared and activated, it is injected into the skin using very small needles. When they are first injected, the PRP can act like a filler, adding volume to the area. However, the benefits can extend beyond the temporary volume that the serum provides. After the platelet-rich plasma facelift, the injected serum can begin the process of stimulating fibroblast recruitment, restoring collagen, and helping your body to grow new, healthy, and smooth skin.

Because PRP is taken from your own body, there is less risk of adverse reactions. However, you may have some redness and swelling near the injection sites. You can expect this to fade quickly. You may start to see the results of your PRP facelift procedure within a few weeks, but it can often take several months before the full results are seen.
