CoolSculpting, sometimes referred to as cryolipolysis, is a safe, effective body contouring method that has been approved by the FDA. At Mariposa Aesthetics & Laser Center in Oklahoma City, OK, we are proud to offer this non-invasive body sculpting treatment because we feel strongly that everyone should be confident in their appearance. Today, we’re going to be talking about this treatment to help you figure out if it is something that could benefit you.
How Many Sessions of CoolSculpting Do You Need?
You can generally expect to need one or two cryolipolysis sessions to achieve your desired results if you are already at your ideal weight. If you’re roughly 10 to 15 pounds from your goal weight, you may need to get three or four treatment sessions to achieve your desired results. If you have closer to 25 or 30 pounds to lose before you reach your goal weight, you can generally expect to need between five and six treatment sessions before you are satisfied.
How Often Can I Come in for Treatment?
Usually, cryolipolysis sessions are scheduled two months apart. There are a couple of reasons for this general rule. One reason it is advisable to wait 60 days between treatment sessions is that it usually takes around six to eight weeks for your lymphatic system to flush out all of the fat cells killed during the treatment session. We will help you schedule a treatment plan that should allow you to achieve your desired results in under a year.
How Can I See My Final Results Faster?
To see your final results as quickly as possible, you should take care to ensure your diet is as clean as possible. The less junk food you eat, the less time your lymphatic system has to spend flushing out the harmful chemical compounds in the food. This means that your lymphatic system will have more time to spend flushing out the fat cells killed during the non-invasive body contouring treatment. Eating healthy also ensures your lymphatic system has the fuel it needs.
Another highly effective step you can take to see your final results faster is to exercise regularly. It is important to remember that consistency is key when it comes to exercise. It is far less important what kind of exercise you do. For example, you will get the same benefit if you walk for 30 minutes daily on your lunch break at work or swim for an hour a week and spin for 1.5 hours a week.
How Long Will My Treatment Session Take?
We can’t give you a great idea of how long your treatment session will take until you come in for your initial consultation. At this time, we will evaluate your areas of concern and talk about the results you’d like to achieve by the end of your course of treatment. You can feel pretty confident that you won’t need to take more than an hour out of your day to dedicate to treatment.
Several factors affect how long each treatment session will take, including the number of areas being targeted, how much excess fat is in those areas, and the size of the areas being treated. Typically, the larger the areas being targeted, the longer the treatment session will take. However, in some cases, treating a large area may only take 20 minutes. Treating two smaller areas may take around 30 minutes.
Will I Need To Prepare for My Treatment?
Yes, there are preparation steps you will need to take prior to your treatment. We will let you know everything you need to do during your initial consultation. Some highlights include refraining from alcohol and tobacco consumption, discontinuing the use of blood-thinners, and avoiding excessive UV exposure. It is important to note that you must be able to adhere to all preparation steps to qualify for treatment.
Will I Need To Follow Any Aftercare Guidelines?
Yes, there will be aftercare guidelines that you will need to follow. For example, you will need to treat your skin very gently for a few days after treatment. Only take tepid baths or showers to avoid excessive heat exposure. Similarly, you should avoid dry saunas, steam rooms, and vigorous exercise. Another step you will need to take to care for your skin is to protect it from UV damage.
It is also very important that you hydrate and eat nutritiously during your recovery regardless of whether you are anxious to hasten your final results. Moreover, you should not get any cosmetic treatments in the targeted areas that may result in skin irritation. We will provide you with a complete list of aftercare guidelines during your initial consultation. If you don’t feel confident you can follow all of them, like avoiding tobacco or alcohol consumption, let us know.
Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?
To find out for sure whether you are a good cryolipolysis candidate, you need to come in for an initial consultation with one of our aesthetic experts. Typically, you will be considered a good fit for this treatment if you feel self-conscious about certain parts of your body due to excess fat deposits. However, there are exceptions to this general rule. For example, if you suffer from a medical condition that makes you sensitive to cold temperatures, you may be disqualified.
What Areas Can Be Targeted With This Treatment?
This fat removal treatment is incredibly versatile. It can be used to remove a moderate amount of excess subcutaneous fat from just about any region of the body. For example, it can be used to remove moderate amounts of excess fat from small areas, like the underarms, chin, neck, and knees. It can also be used to remove excess fat from medium-sized areas, like the buttocks, thighs, and upper arms.
Can This Treatment Target Large Areas?
Yes, CoolSculpting can be used to target large areas for fat removal. For example, women commonly seek this treatment to remove excess fat from the lower abdomen, bra line, and buttocks. As another example, it is common for men to seek this treatment for the removal of excess fat from the lower back, flanks, hips, and thighs. This treatment can also be used to remove excess fat from the chest.
Who Isn’t a Good Candidate for This Treatment?
You will be considered a poor CoolSculpting candidate if you are obese or underweight. If you are obese, it is likely that there will be so much excess fat in your areas of concern that this treatment won’t be as effective as you’d like it to be. If you are underweight, it is likely that there will not be enough excess fat in your areas of concern that this treatment won’t be as effective as you’d like it to be.
There are other medical conditions that may disqualify you from treatment. We’ve alluded to conditions like Raynaud’s disease that causes extreme cold sensitivity. However, you will also be considered a poor candidate for this treatment if your skin is irritated at the time of your appointment. For example, a sunburn or rosacea flare-up will disqualify you from treatment temporarily.
Do I Need To Worry About Loose Skin After Treatment?
No, you don’t need to worry about this treatment causing loose skin. Each treatment session can remove roughly 20 to 80% of the localized subcutaneous fat cells depending on the size of the treatment area. If a small area is being targeted, roughly 80% of fat cells in the area can be removed in a single session. If a large area is being targeted, closer to 20 to 30% of localized fat cells can be removed.
In other words, if you have 15 pounds of subcutaneous abdominal fat, a single treatment session may destroy around three to five pounds of fat. Since it takes your body six to eight weeks to flush out all of the dead fat cells, you’ll lose less than a pound of fat per week assuming you only treat one area. Typically, loose skin is a concern if you lose more than 1% of your weight weekly.
