What is a PRP Facelift?

prp facelift

A PRP facelift is a non-surgical way to tighten the skin and eliminate those unwanted lines and wrinkles that you notice when you glance at yourself in the mirror. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is used to stimulate the skin to tighten itself. HA fillers may also be used to enhance the results. This is a safe alternative to a surgical facelift and does not require a long period of downtime for recovery. Its purpose is to increase the growth of collagen in the skin in order to restore tightness.

Collagen is a protein that is found in the lower layers of the skin. It is there to provide tightness and fullness to the skin and to hold tissue together. As a person ages, the collagen levels begin to decrease. This is because one of the effects of aging is a reduction in collagen production. This naturally decreases the amount of the substance that is present in the skin. Consequently, it starts to lose fullness and gives way to the development of lines and wrinkles. Since these are some of the most common signs of aging, many people respond by seeking treatments to eliminate them.

When procedures like PRP facelifts are used, the intent is to stimulate the production of collagen at a rate that more closely matches what it was before time caused the growth of it to slow. The natural consequence of increased collagen is a return to a former level of tightness in the skin. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers can help to supplement the depleting levels of hyaluronic acid as well.

Traditional facelift surgery is done under general anesthesia. An incision is made and the skin is pulled tight. The excess is then trimmed off and the skin is stitched back together. For many people, this sounds scary. In fact, it is enough to make them avoid surgery altogether. This leaves them with two options. They can either put up with the aged appearance or look for other, non-non-surgical measures. This is where a PRP facelift can be beneficial.

A PRP facelift begins when a sample of the patient’s own blood is drawn. It is then placed in a centrifuge machine and spun until the major components are separated from one another. The platelets are then used to inject back into the body in the area where the improvements are needed.

If you want a younger look but do not want to endure surgery, you should check with our team at Mariposa Aesthetics & Laser Center about the benefits of a PRP facelift. You may find it to be exactly what you are looking for when it comes to achieving a younger look. Contact us today to book an appointment at our office in Oklahoma City!
