How it Works
Ultherapy uses the energy of ultrasound to tighten, firm and lift the skin. Ultrasound is used in many different medical applications and is completely safe. When Ultherapy is used to treat the effects of aging, it penetrates deeply into the skin and triggers the deep layers of the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. Over the next few months, the skin undergoes a transformation as it reverts to a more youthful structure. The skin in the treated area gradually becomes firmer, tighter, and smoother. Unlike many other similar treatments, Ultherapy can not only firm skin but also lift it. The focused bursts of ultrasound create a line of tightened spots that pull the rest of the skin upwards, correcting sagging jowls and brows.
Where it Works
Ultherapy has been FDA-approved to treat wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin on the brow, the chin, and the neck. It has also been approved to treat the décolletage area. In essence, the entire area from the crown of the head to the abdomen can benefit from Ultherapy.
What to Expect
A full face and neck treatment takes about 90 minutes. Treating the chest as well adds 30 minutes to the treatment time. During the treatment, there may be some slight discomfort as the ultrasound energy is transmitted into the deeper layers of skin.
After an Ultherapy treatment, patients can immediately return to their normal activities. There is no required downtime or recovery period. The skin may become reddened for a few hours after the treatment, and some patients experience minor, temporary swelling of the treated area. The full effects of the treatment will be visible after 2 to 3 months. The skin in the treated area will gradually tighten, firm, and lift as the treated skin begins to produce more collagen and to revert to a more youthful structure.
How Long and How Many
Most patients only need one treatment to see dramatic results. Some patients benefit from additional treatments. The results of the treatment last for around 12 months in most patients before a touch-up treatment is necessary. During your consultation at Mariposa MedSpa, our medical team will discuss the recommended number of treatments for your specific needs.
