Preparing for a visit to the spa is an important part of your total spa experience. Different treatments and procedures may require their own particular preparation — which is something that the experts here at Mariposa MedSpa will have discussed with you when you first booked your appointment — but there are also general things that you can do to make your whole spa experience easier and better, whether it’s your first visit or your twentieth.
Eating and drinking is part of preparation. Eat light on the day of your spa visit, regardless of the kind of treatment you have booked. You want to be comfortable while you are at the spa, so eating heavy meals that make you feel full or bloated isn’t a good idea. It’s also important to hydrate. Drink water before, during, and especially after your treatment.
If you are having any kind of skin treatment, ask your aesthetician prior to your visit if you should shower and exfoliate before you arrive at the spa. For some treatments, getting that first layer of dead skin cells off your body can help body treatments work better and be more effective. For others, it may be best to have showered the day before rather than the day of the appointment. Again, this may have been something that was already explained to you, but if not or if you can’t remember, it’s a good idea to check with a quick phone call.
Consider what to wear to the spa. It’s usually a good idea to leave your jewelry at home, as many treatment — especially body treatments — will require you to remove all jewelry anyway. Loose and comfortable clothing is also a good idea. Most spas will offer you a robe and slippers, or you can go barefoot, and your clothing will be left in a locker while you are enjoying your treatments and the rest of the spa. Clean skin is also wise; there is no need to wear makeup to your visit. You can always bring your makeup to put on afterward, unless you are having a treatment where it would be better to go without makeup for a day or two. Again, this is likely something your aesthetician will have discussed with you before you arrive, but it never hurts to ask if you are concerned.
All our medical spa treatments and procedures include a consultation with your provider before treatment begins. You are absolutely encouraged to ask any questions that you would like; we are here to make sure that you are comfortable and ready for your treatment.
